Garage Cleanup

Here's yet another "almost there" project that is likely to sit tight for a while because it's now in the "good enough" pile.

I saw this idea on Maillardville Manor and basically copied it to a "T".

I'm aiming to get the wire shelves from Home Depot a.s.a.p. because right now this...

is our closet.

Bed Time! Part 2

So I sort of have "afters"...
I got Miss Mak's bed done but am waiting for the mattresses. Coming soon, I hope.
For now, she's making due like the trooper she is.

CJ's bed is still in the works.
I painted it red, like I showed you in the "befores" but the red ended up looking awefully pink.
Husband opposed my color choice {which I picked because it was F.R.E.E.} and helped me choose a cherryier red.

The color is great. The painting texture due to at least 4 coats of paint, not so great.

So back to the garage where they're being sanded down.
And to avoid yet another coat of red paint, I'm using a tinted polyurethane to darked the wood I've managed to expose while sanding and give the whole piece a "well loved" look.

So close I can taste it!

Bed Time!

I've been wanting to do these projects for a couple of months now and am SO excited to share what I've been able to get done.

Of course we must start with the "befores" {post sanding}

Small Bath Rug Fix

We ran into a small problem in our hall bath... 

 we needed a rug for the kids to step on so they don't slip on the tile...

 but it was too big.

I couldn't find any run short enough so the door can pass over it.

 So I cut it in half...

 Laid it side by side...

 and voila...

 Problem solved.

Good Morning!
I read somewhere that a blogger should post every day.
Let's just say, for our purposes, that I'm a blogger...
one who is falling very short these days.

I had no idea what I was in for when Hubs signed the papers for this house.

I've managed to hang a couple of pictures this weekend which made it all feel more like home. The girls room is painted, CJ and Mak's beds are sanded and ready for paint {more on that soon}. I feel like I have a plan for most of the rooms in the house. Now it's just a matter of time to execute them. So far, it's been a lot of work and watching things come together is so much fun. 

So in the meantime... I'll pass on some of the fun things I come across while my feet are up at the end of the day. Like this...

Girls are Full o' Drama

My nuggets are a bit small for fights just yet but that hasn't stopped their room from giving me fits. I bought paint for their room. Another blue/grey and decided NO MORE! So I've been on the hunt and have considered blues, greens, pale pinks, yellows, and the like.
The results?
Nothing conclusive.
I've been looking for something bright yet calming.
Not an easy feat.
As much as I like these, they don't say calm.

And as much as I like this,

it's lacking the bright, deep coloring I'm looking for.

My new interest is this...

We put a blue just like it in our bedroom for a calming effect. Maybe with some brights we can "girl it up" a bit.
Ask me how I feel about it tomorrow.

A Few Progress Pictures {and some dreaming}

It seems as though God is always working on me.
I am thankful for this.
Most of the time.

Currently, I'm in the midst of the lesson that impatience is sin.
I'm an INCREDIBLY impatient person.
I'm the type of person who wanted it all done yesterday. 
In my preparations for this move I thought of most of the things I wanted to do with the house and intended to have just about everything done before we moved in.
HA!
Yeah right.
Moving takes time.
Painting and decorating take time.
Munchkins require attention and time.
So little by little we're making progress and for the first time in my life, I'm learning to be okay with that.
Without further ado... here is some of the progress we've made...

A Strange but Useful Tip...

Okay, so I'm not gonna mince words with this one. I warn you now, this may sound very strange but...
apparently breast milk cures just about everything!

It's true. Not only is it a super food for your baby but it also cures pink eye, opens clogged tear ducts, clears nasal congestion, and fixes/staves off ear infections.
Who knew?!
CJ had pink eye as a wee one and a few drops of milk in his eyes several times a day cleared it up without medication.. 
Mak had a blocked tear duct and a few drops on milk in her eyes a few times a day worked to open them up.
Bean has been sick for a week now with a cold and minor ear infection. She has has boogers coming from her nose and eyes and a wet cough from congestion for a week now.
At first I figured her body would work it out after a week since colds last about a week with treatment and about 7 days if left alone. That was until I found out she had an ear infection. I was given some homeopathic pills to help relieve the cold and then, due to the persuasion of a friend, I began to put drops of milk in Bean's ears, while I nursed, and nose, before bed.  Within 24 hours of starting the breast milk treatement, Bean is clearing up and drying out.
It's a miracle!
At first I thought I'd keep this to myself but then realized, if it works, why not share it!?
So there ya have it.
Gross, but good.
